In 2008, the Calgary CFA Society partnered with CFA Institute and the Calgary Stampede to create the Bullish on Your Future™ art initiative. The vision was to create an iconic bronze sculpture in the heart of downtown Calgary, which represents our energy and optimism, acknowledges our heritage, and presents the city as a rising financial
centre.
While the bull has come to represent a distinct global financial symbol of prosperity and optimism, the Bullish on Your Future™ art initiative is also inspired by Outlaw, Canada’s most famous bull. Outlaw represents the free spirit of Calgary as he rose to fame unseating 57 consecutive riders before Justin Volz became the first and only rider to hang on for the full eight seconds, winning the $50,000 prize at the 2002 Calgary Stampede. In selecting our most famous bull as the model for this sculpture, this monument will benefit from a unique narrative that is distinctly Calgarian.
In addition, the Bullish on Your Future™ art project beautifies and supports the city’s public art initiative and furthers the vision of the Calgary Stampede Public Art Committee to create art which reflects and promotes our western values and heritage. With the official unveiling in the spring of 2010, Outlaw will be situated at the northeast corner of 2nd Street and 5th Avenue SW (Fifth Avenue Place). This impressive structure designed by artist Richard Loffler will tower 11 feet above the streetscape.
